Evidence Your Team’s Expertise

A lot of diversity efforts fail because they try to change attitudes, instead of structures.

This creates significant cost.

If you’re not measuring the cost, you’re already absorbing it.

Change Makers, 2026

Proud to be deliberately different.

Not ESOL. Not Just Classroom-based English.

Traditional language training focuses on general ability.

We focus on Workplace Performance.

CPD English helps you meet your Business objectives

Growth and market reach: Language capability supports international expansion, cross‑border collaboration and service to diverse customers.

Operational excellence: Fewer errors, faster handovers and better safety outcomes through clearer communication.

Employer brand: Visible investment in language and inclusion strengthens the organisation’s appeal in tight labour markets.

Workforce and EDI policies: Equal access to learning: Language programmes can be reasonable adjustments / targeted support for disadvantaged groups and is consistent with EDI best practice and guidance.

Fair progression and performance management: Clear language‑support pathways aligned with progression criteria help ensure that performance ratings and promotion outcomes reflect capability, not language privilege.

Why Workplace Performance is a Strategic Lever

CIPD guidance frames EDI as central to delivering business objectives, recruitment, retention and building organisations where everyone can perform at their best.

Language is a core inclusion enabler for multilingual workforces.

From policy to lived experience: EDI strategies emphasise creating cultures where individuals feel safe, belong and can contribute fully; if employees cannot understand policies, training or meetings, they cannot realise these rights in practice.

Addressing systemic barriers: For many ESOL employees, language is the key barrier that interacts with race, status and social class; targeted language‑plus‑EDI training directly addresses this structural disadvantage.

Strengthening credibility of people processes: Research on EDI shows that transparent pathways, clear criteria and access to development reduce perceptions of bias and workplace tension; language‑support aligned to those pathways makes them genuinely accessible.

If communication affects performance in your organisation, leaving it unaddressed is a business risk, not a training gap.
— CEO S. Johnson, Capital Assets

Scenario-based: Uses real workplace situations and documentation

Outcome Driven: Measures improvement in clarity, accuracy, and confidence. We measure progression, not participation.

A Clear, Structured Pathway

  1. Communication Audit reveals what’s needed to close the gaps on impacted performance, risk, or consistency.

  2. We design a bespoke and role-specific pathway with the fastest lead-time available.

  3. We deliver targeted training using our CPD-Accredited Precision Tuition approach

  4. Our comprehensive monitoring and evaluation processes track progress end-to-end to deliver a final report on the measured progress made.

How we work

A diverse group of people attending a business meeting or workshop in a modern conference room with large windows and laptops.

We design CPD-accredited development pathways that support staff to communicate with confidence, participate fully, and progress in their roles. Our training goes beyond traditional ESOL by connecting workplace English with professional confidence, inclusion, leadership potential, and career development.

We work with organisations that want to turn diverse recruitment into meaningful progression. Through staff training, manager support, access to sponsorship pathways and practical communication programmes, CPD English helps employers build workplaces where talent is recognised, developed, and able to thrive.

We are an inclusive, equity-driven organisation and the only English and EDI training provider accredited by the CPD Standards Office, offering a programme that integrates professional language development with measurable CPD outcomes. Learners gain recognised CPD points, demonstrating tangible commitment to professional growth—while employers benefit from more effective, confident, and promotion-ready staff.

Our approach is deliberately different.

We do not treat English as a barrier to be fixed, but as a pathway to confidence, participation, and progression.

We combine workplace English, inclusive communication, and professional development so employers can support multilingual and ethnically diverse staff to thrive, contribute, and move forward in their careers.

For organisations, this translates into stronger performance, improved retention of diverse talent, and demonstrable progress against EDI objectives and CPD pathways.

If you are looking for training that goes beyond awareness and delivers measurable impact, CPD English offers a proven, evidence-based solution.

How can CPD English Precision Tuition improve Continued Professional Development?

One Size Fits One

Across many organisations, there’s growing recognition that development pathways designed as ‘one-size-fits-all’ fails diverse workforces.

CPD English moves beyond generic courses to invest in linguistically and culturally responsive development that dismantles structural barriers to progression, especially around language and communication.

Our Precision Tuition approach rejects the assumption of uniform linguistic starting points. We go beyond grammar. We focus on decision-room language; how to influence, challenge and lead.

Our success is built on decoding workplace communication because language is more than just grammar. It’s authority, influence, executive presence, and possessing the flair to navigate institutional norms.

We design tailored ESOL-integrated CPD that equips second language speakers to evidence their promotion readiness.

Our industry-experienced, professional tutors sponsor our candidates to ensure success.

Because mentorship is helpful, but sponsorship drives promotion.

  • Multilingual speakers can bring valuable skills, cultural knowledge, and professional experience, but they may still face workplace barriers that are not always obvious.

    Common challenges include:

    • Being underestimated: Their skills, qualifications, or leadership potential may be overlooked because of accent, grammar, or confidence with English.

    • Meeting participation: Fast-paced discussions, interruptions, idioms, humour, and informal language can make it harder to contribute.

    • Written communication pressure: Emails, reports, forms, and professional messages can take longer because they are trying to be accurate and appropriate.

    • Confidence in speaking up: They may understand the work but hesitate to ask questions, challenge decisions, or share ideas in case they are judged.

    • Progression barriers: Interviews, appraisals, presentations, and networking often rely heavily on confident professional communication.

    • Cultural communication differences: Expectations around eye contact, self-promotion, disagreement, feedback, or asking for help can vary.

    • Accent bias: Colleagues may mistake accent for lack of fluency, intelligence, or authority.

    • Safety and compliance risks: If instructions, policies, or training are unclear, important information can be missed.

  • Job descriptions and competency frameworks may embed unnecessarily high or vague language requirements (e.g. “native speaker,” “excellent English”) that screen out capable staff and become a justification for not shortlisting or promoting.

  • Training and CPD offers may not be linguistically or culturally accessible, or may assume native‑speaker fluency (fast delivery, idioms, dense written materials), which can deter participation or reduce the benefit for staff with different language profiles

  • Constant correction, accent‑based comments or subtle ridicule of “mistakes” can create anxiety around speaking in meetings, presenting or applying for roles, so staff self‑select out of opportunities they are qualified for.

When staff feel they cannot fully express themselves in the workplace language, they may struggle to demonstrate leadership behaviours like strategic contribution, challenge and negotiation, which are often informally assessed in promotion decisions.

  • CPD English uses Precision Tuition which improves outcomes by focusing on the exact communication moments that affect confidence, performance, and progression at work.

Rather than offering generic English lessons, we identify where staff need support: meetings, emails, appraisals, interviews, presentations, feedback conversations, customer interactions, safeguarding, compliance, or leadership communication. Tuition is then tailored to the person’s role, workplace, confidence level, and career goals.

For ethnically diverse staff who use English as an additional language, this can improve outcomes by helping them:

    • communicate with more confidence in formal and informal workplace situations

    • participate more fully in meetings, training, and team discussions

    • understand workplace expectations around tone, feedback, questioning, and professional language

    • prepare for progression through interviews, appraisals, presentations, and leadership conversations

    • reduce the risk of being underestimated because of accent, grammar, or communication style

    • show their existing skills more clearly to managers, colleagues, and decision-makers.

Professional Services

  • There is no such thing as a hard to reach community – only under-engaged ones.

This immersive two‑day, in‑person workshop (for up to 12 participants, delivered on your site) equips your team with the tools, confidence and evidence‑based practice to engage meaningfully with communities who are too often overlooked, mistrusted or over‑consulted.

Drawing on our award‑recognised work leading stakeholder engagement with diverse Black communities across all 44 police force areas in the United Kingdom, we show how lived experience, rigorous analysis and co‑production can reshape national policy. Participants will see how we supported Black individuals, groups, businesses and communities to co‑design the National Police Chiefs’ Council and College of Policing Police Race Action Plan – and what it takes in practice to build that level of trust and participation at scale.

    You will learn how to:

    • Map complex, intersectional stakeholder groups using the right engagement frameworks for your context – moving beyond simple “interest and influence” grids to dynamic, living maps.

    • Design non‑extractive engagement processes that give back to communities, build capacity and avoid the “consulted then ignored” trap.

    • Build and sustain social capital networks so your engagement isn’t a one‑off project, but an ongoing, mutually beneficial relationship.

    • Apply the latest promising practice in stakeholder and community engagement with diverse audiences, so your organisation is aligned with leading standards rather than minimum compliance.

    • Distinguish and confidently choose between engagement, consultation, collaboration and empowerment – and know when each is appropriate.

By the end of the workshop, your team will be able to design and deliver engagement that:

    • Actively involves under‑engaged communities in shaping decisions

    • Shares power rather than simply sharing information

    • Leaves stakeholders feeling heard, respected and excited to work with you long‑term.

Ideal for: public sector bodies, regulators, charities and mission‑driven organisations who need to reach communities that have good reason to be sceptical of traditional engagement.
